Single parenthood….what comes to mind when you hear single parent? It sounds challenging, tiring, unfortunate…pretty much just all around unappealing! As a single parent, I am here to tell you that all of those words do apply at different times. However, it is not all bad.
There are times when everything is running like a well oiled machine. And you can pat yourself on the back because it is all of your hard work, planning, and determination that makes it happen. Those are the moments I relish in.There are different versions of single parent-dom. There is the full on single parent that has no support from the other parent, there is the part time single parent that shares responsibilities with the other parent in separate households, and there is mixture of all of that and then some. I would say I am in between both of those. While I do I have financial support, I take on most of the parenting responsibilities.
The most challenging part of being a single parent is finding a balance. You must practically be two sometimes three people in one body. You need to feed the kids, bathe them, get them to school, discipline them, entertain them, and depending on their age be a constant chauffeur for your children. But you are just one person! And depending on your situation you may work full time in and/or out of the home, you may attend school, you may volunteer, just all around have many of responsibilities that you need to tend to. All of that in addition to being a single parent, at times it seems to be downright impossible to keep up.
But my saying is, if there is a will there is a way!
